The vision of the Medical Research Council (MRC) is “Building a healthy nation through research.” An important requirement for the successful realisation of this vision is the establishment of reliable, two-way communication between the MRC and the people of South Africa.
With this in mind the Audio Production Studio utilises all possible communication methods. The Audio Production Studio resides in the Web and Media Technologies Platform (WMTP) and is situated in the Pretoria Regional office.
The main aims of the WMTP production studio are to:
- Ensure that the information stemming from the MRC’s research is converted into knowledge by engaging with the public in a way that allows them to derive the maximum possible benefit;
- Allow the public an opportunity to participate in the work of the MRC by communicating their health-research needs to the MRC – ensure a high quality of information in the push and pull environments;
- Disseminate and communicate health research information in indigenous languages in order to empower and improve communities’ knowledge around research;
- Bridge the knowledge gap between the people who live in rural and urban areas – the literate and illiterate – and thereby, contribute to the communication of science to members of rural communities in Southern Africa.
- Conduct appropriate research to improve the transfer of knowledge to identified audiences.
